Viper, the Netherdrake, is a ranged agility hero who functions as an excellent nuker, ganker and carry due to his assortment of low-cooldown spells and debilitating attacks. His modus operandi is to whittle away his opponents' vitality over long stretches of time while they fail to inflict fatal damage. To that end Viper wields magic-based abilities focused on inhibiting speed and defenses. He infects his quarry with Poison Attack, a seemingly innocuous liquid that rapidly burns away more health as they became sicker, while drowning them in noxious pools which block their innate powers. Meanwhile Corrosive Skin fortifies him against magic damage and poisons those who dare strike him. For impervious foes he reserves his most powerful venom, Viper Strike, as a surprise gift. A slow tank that dominates the early stages of a game, Viper depends on consolidating that advantage before opponents can afford to exploit his weaknesses.
Bio
Abilities
- The cast range of Poison Attack is based on the attack range of the caster.
- The cast range can be further increased by other attack range bonuses. However, it is not affected by cast range bonuses.
- Both Autocast and manually casting it uses Viper's current attack range.
- Poison Attack places one debuff on the target, successive attacks increase its stack count, and resets the duration of the entire stack.
- Does not work against allied units or wards.
- The number of stacks can be seen on the status buff icon as well.
- With 5 ( 8) stacks, it reduces the enemy target's movement speed by 30%/40%/50%/60% ( 48%/64%/80%/96%).
- It also reduces the enemy target's magic resistance to 10%/2.5%/-5%/-12.5% ( 1%/-11%/-23%/-35%).
- For how much movement speed and magic resistance Poison Attack reduces with a certain amount of stacks on each level, please refer to the chart below.
- Deals damage in 1-second intervals, starting 1 second after the debuff is applied, resulting in 4 damage instances.
- With the maximum stacks, Poison Attack can deal up to 20/40/60/80 ( 32/64/96/128) damage per second, and a total of 80/160/240/320 ( 128/256/384/512) damage in 4 seconds.
- For how much damage per second and total damage Poison Attack deals with a certain amount of stacks on each level, please refer to the chart below.
- The attacks first apply the debuff, then their own damage.
- With Aghanim's Shard, Poison Attack reduces armor and also applies its effects on buildings as well.
- Reduces armor by 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8 per stack.
- With the maximum stacks, Poison Attack reduces all affected buildings' total magic resistance to -32%/-48%/-64%/-80%, dealing up to 16.9/37.89/62.98/92.16 damage per second to buildings.
- Nethertoxin's projectile travels at a speed of 2000.
- All effects of Nethertoxin, including the damage per interval, are provided by an aura. Its debuff lingers for 0.5 seconds.
- Deals damage in 0.5-second intervals, starting 0.5 seconds after receiving the debuff, resulting in up to 17 instances.
- The damage increases by 2.19/3.44/4.69/5.94 ( 4.69/5.94/7.19/8.44) for each 0.5 seconds spent within the area.
- As the damage increases per interval, and once it reaches the maximum 25/37.5/50/62.5 ( 45/57.5/70/82.5) damage per interval, the damage at subsequent intervals deal the maximum damage, until the end of its duration.
- Can deal up to 346.25/513.75/681.25/848.75 ( 596.25/763.75/931.25/1098.75) damage within the area for the entire duration.
- For how much damage per interval Nethertoxin deals, with the damage increasing talent, please refer to the chart below.
- The damage value resets whenever the enemy leaves the radius and enters it again. It does not count accumulated time spent within the radius.
- Multiple instances of Nethertoxin's debuff do not stack.
- When leveling up the ability, the damage on already affected units does not update.
- However, if an enemy receives the debuff after leveling it up or learning the talent, that enemy receives the new damage values.
- Increases Viper's total magic resistance to 33%/36%/40%/44% ( 400%/588%/775%/963%).
- The damage and attack speed slow debuff is applied to whoever damages Viper within 1400 range.
- Corrosive Skin procs on all 3 damage types, but not self-inflicted damage and HP Removal effects (e.g. Sunder, Soul Ring etc.).
- Damage procced is dealt to the damage source itself. This means, damage dealt by abilities that are not sourced from the caster (e.g. Proximity Mines), do not trigger Corrosive Skin debuff on the caster.
- The damage dealt has the no-reflection flag, preventing its damage from interacting with other sources of damage with the same flag.
- Deals damage in 1-second intervals, starting 1 second after the debuff is applied, resulting in 4 damage instances.
- Can deal a total of 32/64/96/128 damage (before reductions).
- Successive procs of Corrosive Skin on the same target do not stack, only the debuff gets refreshed.
- Does not affect buildings, wards, invulnerable or allied units.
- Viper Strike's projectile travels at a speed of 1200.
- The slow decreases over time. Affected units regain 0.3%/0.4%/0.5% of their movement speed and 0.267/0.4/0.533 attack speed on each server tick.
- This equals to 8%/12%/16% movement speed and 8/12/16 attack speed regained per second.
- Deals damage in 1-second intervals, starting immediately as the debuff is applied, resulting in 5 damage instances.
- Can deal up to 400/600/800 ( 800/1000/1200) damage (before reductions).
- Successive casts of Viper Strike on the same target do not stack, only the debuff gets refreshed.
- The particle effects on Viper's wings during the cast time are visible to everyone, showing that the ability is being cast.

Gameplay
It was foolhardy to try and tame a Netherdrake, a lesson the old wizard learned in death. Freed from his captor, Viper spread his wings and went forth to explore the surface world. His Poison Attacks cause joints to harden, crippling foes whether they choose to flee or fight. Nethertoxin spreads throughout their body, sapping the will and weakening the spirit. The Netherdrake's tough, Corrosive Skin protects against spellcraft, and burns assailants with acid. But it is the dreaded Viper Strike that signals the beginning of the end. The afflicted victim staggers to a crawl, barely able to take his next step. If the Netherdrake doesn't finish him off, the venom in his veins will. | |

Trivia
- Viper's response ▶️ "Holy shit, it's me!" is a reference to a scene of the movie Top Gun.[1] Gyrocopter makes a similar, yet more accurate ▶️ response upon meeting him as an ally.
- Viper's Chinese name is 冥界亚龙 (Míngjiè Yàlóng), a literal translation of "Netherdrake". However, Viper Strike's translation still uses the word "Viper" (蝮蛇, fùshé).
