The Shopkeeper concludes a transaction

The Shopkeeper is a major character in the animated series of Dota: Dragon's Blood.

In Dota: Dragon's Blood[]

The Shopkeeper returns in the animated series DOTA: Dragon's Blood. His brief encounter with the heroes of the story belies his vast influence on their stories.

After having his location tipped off by Gwanwyn, Mirana and Marci sought out the Shopkeeper to help them recover the stolen lotuses. They arrive at his shop, and Mirana inquires him about the location of the stolen lotuses. He responds, assuring them that he has no business dealing with stolen goods. Adding to his answer, he also says that he knows a person who might help them: a lone sage who lives in his tower, residing in a valley south of the Broken Peaks. He then offers the Shopkeeper's Gem, and says that they will need it to "see" him.

Mirana offers him a bracelet in exchange, but he declines, saying that he would rather be repaid in kind. Before the scene ends, he holds up the gem to reveal Mirana's past in its facets, while confirming their bargain.

He is not seen again after this, but later episodes reveal that his actions of giving away the gem was indirectly responsible for Terrorblade's temporary manifestation on the material plane, and one of the key factors to Nightsilver's fall at the hands of Terrorblade and the Coedwen elves.

Mirana: I came her for information about my lotuses. Tell me where to find them.
*The corpulent overseer that tried to traffick them earlier is sent flying into a bunch of crates by Marci's strength*
Mirana: Or explain it to her.
Gwanwyn: The Shopkeeper! Talk to the Shopkeeper.
    Mirana: Where?
Gwanwyn: The Magpie's Roost. If any such merchandise moves through Candoness, he knows. He knows.
*Mirana retrieves her circlet from his pocket*
Mirana: And he'll know you, Princess of Nothing. Outcast! Usurper's whore!
Mirana: Finder of lost precious things.
*Mirana punts him in the face with a low roundhouse kick*
Mirana: See if you can find your teeth. Let's go.
  2. DOTA: Dragon's Blood, Book 1, Episode 2: Princess of Nothing
Mirana: I was told you might be able to locate certain artifacts of unique interest.
Shopkeeper: This depends on the artifact and the interest.
Mirana: Lotuses from the Temple of Mene.
Shopkeeper: I do not deal in stolen goods, nor should a princess of the Nightsilver Woods, exiled or not.
Mirana: The lotuses were stolen, I intend to get them back. Can you help me?
Shopkeeper: I cannot refuse an emissary of Selemene, however, I'm afraid no one has offered them for sale. But, perhaps a man I know can help you.
    Mirana: Who?
Shopkeeper: A sage. He keeps to himself in his tower, in a valley south of the Broken Peaks.
*The Shopkeeper holds up the Gem*
Shopkeeper: You'll need this to see him.
*Mirana offers her bracelet in exchange*
    Mirana: Please.
Shopkeeper: I'd rather my favor be returned in kind someday, Princess, who may be more than a princess.
*The Shopkeeper holds up the Gem level with Mirana. The chronoptic Gem's facets reveal Mirana's past as a child, the present, and her future as the Princess of the Sun*
Shopkeeper: Do we have a bargain?
  3. DOTA: Dragon's Blood, Book 1, Episode 6: The Knight, Death, and the Devil
*Fymryn prepares to slay Davion and Mirana from behind the doors of a balcony in the sage's tower, but she is suddenly warped towards the Invoker. He then disarms Fymryn with his magic*
Invoker: Not even a god would violate the Shopkeeper's rules.
  4. DOTA: Dragon's Blood, Book 1, Episode 6: The Knight, Death, and the Devil
Mirana: You. You're no sage. You're the Devil of the Moon. The Invoker.
Invoker: Ah, you know the stories. The stories are fiction.
Mirana: You lie! You want the apocalypse! The end of all things, all life!
    Invoker: I only want peace.
    Davion: Prove it.
Invoker: I will return the lotuses to you. On one condition: take them to Selemene. Convince her to withdraw from the enclaves. Restore things as they are meant to be.
Mirana: Only fools bargain with devils.
Invoker: Spend some time, consider my offer. What you've seen. As long as we negotiate, you're safe. Protected by the...Shopkeeper's magic.
  5. DOTA: Dragon's Blood, Book 2, Episode 4: Desolate and Empty the Sea
Terrorblade: You promised me seven souls. You have delivered only one. We are bound by a Shopkeeper covenant.
Invoker: I am bound only to collect the souls. We never specified that I would relinquish them all. See, I know why you want them. I know what it all means. And I am not so self-destructive as to aid you in your efforts.
  6. DOTA: Dragon's Blood, Book 1, Episode 6: The Knight, Death, and the Devil
*The massive doors of the Invoker's Tower open themselves and welcome its exhausted visitors: Davion carrying Mirana in his arms, and Sagan who has Marci on his back. The master of this edifice appears to be expecting them. Davion puts her down as he falls to his knees*
    Davion: Help them. Please.
*The Invoker glances at the two injured women*
Invoker: The little one has several broken bones and internal bleeding, the taller one a punctured lung. They will both die shortly.
*He extends the Shopkeeper's Gem towards the sage*
    Davion: Then help.
*The Invoker takes the gem from Davion's hand with some sort of telekinetic power, placing it on his own*
Invoker: The Shopkeeper's rules of commerce obligate me to offer safety and hospitality during our...negotiation.

And if they ARE broken the karmic consequences are devastating. God, demon, whatever. It’s a guaranteed defeat or worse."
  8. Tweet by @ashmasterzero "They don’t get strong. They are strong. I also think there’s actually only one shopkeeper and one shop and they are multiply connected to the universe in time and space. But that’s just random crap I think about, not anything canonical."
  9. DOTA: Dragon's Blood, Book 2, Episode 7: The Violet Hour
Lina: You're not understanding me. I hired the assassin who tried to kill Mirana.
Davion: Hellbear shit. I would know! I would...feel it from you.
Lina: Shopkeeper Gem. Oath of silence. No, you wouldn't.
