Shards are a form of in-game currency earned by Dota Plus subscribers or through guilds. Now can be earned from guild contracts and challenges. They are used to purchase exclusive rewards from the in-game Shard Shop.
Obtaining Shards [ edit ]
Some shards can be obtained by players without Dota Plus.

Cosmetics [ edit ]
Cosmetic items can be purchased with shards. Prices can vary. Hero sets and tools can only be purchased by everyone. Relics, treasures, and Chat Wheel sounds can only be purchased by
Dota Plus members. Some items are
exclusive to the Shard Shop, and can only be obtained with shards. Older items that were previously released can also be purchased with shards. These are called legacy items.

Tools are also available from the Rewards shop.
Relics are counters that track a hero's actions and statistics. Each hero has ten common Relics and four rare Relics that can be purchased with shards.
