Quality is a property of items. It is represented in-game by the item's prefix. Under rare circumstances, an item's Quality can be changed by Valve.

Quality is a purely cosmetic property, and has no effect on gameplay. Items can have both a Quality and a Rarity value.

CF6A32

Main Article: Strange

CF6A32 is a special prefix for items that track a count of a specific in-game event. Doing so will upgrade the prefix itself.

Example: A newly unboxed CF6A32 will become an CF6A32 once it has made 10 kills, which will become a CF6A32 once it has made 25 kills, and so on.

Tracked counters are viewable by other players. Other than this, Strange items are no different from regular items. Strange items are obtained from opening hero-specific Treasure Chests. More counters can be added to a Strange item by using a Strange Modifier.

8650AC

Main Article: Unusual

8650AC is a special prefix for items that have a special particle effect. To date, only couriers can have unusual quality. Unusual couriers are found in Treasure Chests at an approximately 1-2% chance.

#476291

Main Article: Vintage

#476291 is a special prefix for limited items obtained under certain circumstances. To date, there are two Vintage items.

8650AC

8650AC is a special prefix for items dropped for spectators during a live tournament game. Other than their name, these items are no different from Normal quality items.

Players can receive tournament items by witnessing several types of events in game.

#4d7455

Main Article: Genuine

#4d7455 is a special prefix for limited items obtained under promotional circumstances. They are obtained as bonus items by purchasing certain merchandise.

70B04A

Main Article: Self-Made

70B04A is a special prefix for items that were submitted to the Steam Workshop which were accepted and added to the game. They are given out to the creator(s) of the item by Valve.

Unused. For Halloween.

Favored

Items awarded to players that win the Compendium team/player vote.
