Orbs to enemies and silences them.
Hatched on the frond of the Undertree, Puck's youthful mischievousness belied inscrutable motives. By teleporting to its Illusory Orb to Jaunt through short distances, it attacks and disrupt foes with bursts of Silencing Dust, Phase Shifting in and out of existence to avoid swords and spells alike. Equally adept at fighting and play, Puck Coils its foes to a single point, forcing them to break their restraints and be stunned, or stay and face Puck's advancing allies.

▶️ "I find myself strangely drawn to this odd configuration of activity."
While Puck seems at first glance a mischievous, childish character, this quality masks an alien personality. The juvenile form of a Faerie Dragon, a creature that lives for eons, Puck spends countless millennia in its childish form. So while it is technically true that Puck is juvenile, it will continue to be so when the cities of the present age have sloughed away into dust. Its motives are therefore inscrutable, and what appears to be play may in fact indicate a darker purpose or just its endless fondness for mischief.
FD, Faerie Dragon

The playful Faerie Dragon delights in confusing others, vanishing and reappearing where unexpected.

  • Illusory Orb travels at a speed of 550, taking 3.55 seconds to reach max distance
  • With the travel distance and damage radius, the orb can hit units up to 2175 range away.
  • The orb starts emitting red pulses after having traveled for 2.5 seconds, indicating that it is about to reach its maximum travel range.
  • Leveling the ability immediately updates the damage values of the current instance.
    • TALENT
However, the damage increasing Talent talent does not update the current instance.
  • The orb leaves behind a trail of flying vision, with a radius of 450. The vision lingers for 5 seconds.

With a mischievous grin, Puck spreads its enchanted powder which disrupts magical flow.

  • ↓↓ Double-tapping automatically targets 25 range in front of Puck.
  • Waning Rift does not disjoint projectiles upon cast.
  • Despite the visual effects, the silence and damage are applied instantly in the entire radius.
    • Waning Rift first applies the damage, then the silence debuff.

Aghanim's Shard Upgrade:
Puck's attacks deal bonus magic damage. Puck attacks all enemies within its attack range (550) every time it phase shifts.
Modifiers [?]
With a quip and flash, Puck returns to the alien dimension from whence it came.

  • Puck is invulnerable and hidden for its duration.
    • Does not provide phased movement, so the caster can still block other units during Phase Shift.
    • The buff lingers for one server tick once the channeling ends or is interrupted, which allows using items while still invulnerable and hidden.
  • Phase Shift now causes Puck to perform instant attacks on all enemies within range whenever Phase Shift is cast.
    • These instant attacks can proc any attack modifiers and on-hit effects normally. They do not have True Strike, but completely ignore disarms.
    • Every visible and attackable enemy nearby, including buildings and Animal Courier Radiant minimap icon Couriers, are attacked.
    • For Melee melee units, if the enemy target is 350 range farther than the attacker's range, the attack will always miss.
    • The search radius can be further increased by other attack range bonuses.

  • This sub-ability is inactive until Illusory Orb is cast, and turns inactive again once the Illusory Orb icon Illusory Orb of that cast is gone.
  • Ethereal Jaunt disjoints projectiles upon cast.
  • When two Illusory Orbs are cast in succession, this ability only stays active for the duration of the first cast.
    • However, it always teleports the caster to their last created Illusory Orb.

Fully pierces debuff immunity.
Modifiers [?]
The Faerie Dragon sows confusion by forcing its enemies to vividly dream about their own mortality.

  • Every enemy hero within 375 range of the coil gets leashed upon cast, preventing them from casting certain mobility abilities.
    • The coil does not leash enemies after cast. Therefore, entering the area after the cast has no effect on enemies.
    • Treat illusions, clones and creep-heroes as heroes.
    • The coil duration is not affected by status resistance sources.
  • If a leashed enemy moves 600 range away from the coil, the leash snaps, stunning and damaging the enemy.
    • It does not matter how far or how fast the enemy moves away, the stun and damage always hit it if possible.
    • The leash snap first applies the damage, then the debuff.
  • Dream Coil leashes invisible units and on units in the Fog of War as well, but it does not provide vision over them. The link visually draws to their last known location.
  • Multiple instances of Dream Coil fully stack, with each cast applying its own separate leash.
  • Dream Coil now perform instant attacks on all leashed enemies and enemies stunned from breaking the leash. Although the instant attacks originate from the center of the Dream Coil, they are still sourced to Puck.
    • These instant attacks can proc any attack modifiers and on-hit effects normally (e.g. magical attack damage bonus of Upgradable by Aghanim's Shard. Phase Shift icon Phase Shift). They do not have True Strike, but completely ignore disarms.
    • Does not require Puck to be within the coil radius to perform the instant attacks.
    • As long as enemies is leashed or stunned, the center of the Dream Coil will attack regardless of the distance between enemies and the center.
      • Dream Coil will only attack enemies leashed or stunned by itself. Enemies leashed or stunned by other Dream Coil will be ignored.
  • The coil attack interval can be defined as
    (100 × 1.7) / (ΣAS × 1)
    • With the attack speed limits, the min and max possible coil attack intervals are 0.2438.5 seconds plus a server tick per instant attack respectively.
    • The interval is not set upon cast. On each instant attack, the interval updates based on Puck's current attack rate.

  • Enchanted Mango icon Enchanted Mango allows Puck to use Illusory Orb more often in lane.
  • A couple of Iron Branch icon Iron Branches give Puck a decent early game attributes boost and also later build into Magic Wand.
  • Faerie Fire icon Faerie Fire supplies an instant heal and attack damage, which may give Puck an edge in trading hits and killing creeps.
  • Tango icon Tango provides Health Regeneration, crucial to sustain in any lane.

Early game:

  • Bottle icon Bottle helps Puck manages rune from the mid lane, as well as replenishing mana for its early game nukes.
  • Null Talisman icon Null Talisman and its components gives Puck a decent early game attributes boost.
  • Healing Salve icon Healing Salve helps keep Puck in lane. You can also use healing salve into phase shift to allow Puck to heal HP even while in combat.
  • Magic Wand icon Magic Wand helps Puck sustain mana and health to keep active in the mid lane.
  • Boots of Speed icon Boots of Speed increase movement speed to help Puck get to runes.
  • Town Portal Scroll icon Town Portal Scroll helps Puck rotate to different lanes and help out allies.

Mid game:

  • Power Treads icon Power Treads help Puck in the early to mid game, as they supplement both Puck's small health pool, as well as its mana pool.
  • Arcane Boots icon Arcane Boots, an alternative to Power Treads, help Puck use its magical nukes more often in the early to mid game.
  • Boots of Travel icon Boots of Travel, another alternative to Power Treads, helps in split pushing and taking fights from across the map. Also, the extra movement speed is appreciated on Puck.
  • Blink Dagger icon Blink Dagger provides great synergy with Puck's abilities and further augments its evasive nature.
  • Eul's Scepter of Divinity icon Eul's Scepter of Divinity offers another disable, as well as keeping Puck safe for a few extra seconds until its other escape abilities come off cooldown.
  • Witch Blade icon Witch Blade adds a very large boost to Puck's already high burst damage, and later builds into Revenant's Brooch.

Late game:

  • Revenant's Brooch icon Revenant's Brooch upgrades from Witch Blade and increases its already high burst damage. The active component is very useful for bursting down high Armor, low Health/Magic Resistance heroes. It also grants a lot of stats which are great help on Puck.
  • Dagon icon Dagon increases Puck's damage output with magical burst and intelligence.
  • Linken's Sphere icon Linken's Sphere makes Puck even harder to pin down, and provides great attributes and regeneration.
  • Scythe of Vyse icon Scythe of Vyse provides mana and mana regeneration, helping Puck use its expensive abilities. It also provides hex for Puck to disable the enemies.
  • Ethereal Blade icon Ethereal Blade gives very good stats and Spell Amplification, the active synergizing very well with Revenant's Brooch and Puck's magical burst.
  • Octarine Core icon Octarine Core reduces the cooldowns of all of Puck's items and abilities. Given the fact that Puck tends to buy a lot of items with active abilities and all 4 of its spells are active abilities, the Cooldown Reduction is very much appreciated, allowing Puck to spam its already low-cooldown abilities even more. The Mana/Mana Regeneration boost is also appreciated on Puck, who has very mana costly spells.

Situational items:

  • Aghanim's Scepter icon Aghanim's Scepter grants attributes and makes Waning Rift knock back enemies and grant True Sight on them.
  • Veil of Discord icon Veil of Discord helps increase your team's magical damage output in the mid game.
  • Force Staff icon Force Staff gives Puck extra mobility. Puck can also use it to break Dream Coil and trigger a stun.
  • Shiva's Guard icon Shiva's Guard increases mana pool and armor to resist physical damage. It also provides an area nuke and slow.

  • Puck's alternate name was "Kupu-Kupu", which means "moth" or "butterfly" in the Malay and Indonesian languages.
  • Puck was introduced in 6.48 as a result of a hero creation contest held on the DotA-Allstars forum, in which players designed a new hero to suit the faerie dragon model from "Warcraft III". This makes Puck the first and only hero created by the community.
  • Puck pays homage to a character of the same name from Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Aside from Puck's playful attitude, its line "A midsummer nightmare" is also an allusion to the play.
  • Since Puck pays homage to a Shakespeare character, most of its lines are delivered in phrasing similar to iambic pentameter.
  • ▶️ "One Puck, two Puck, three Puck more!" is a reference to Eminem's final rap battle in 8 Mile movie (2002).
  • ▶️ "One and one and one is three!" is a reference to The Beatles' song "Come Together" (1969).
