Chen's dedication to Obelis

Obelis is the deity of the Knights of the Fold in the lore of Dota 2.

Description[]

Little is known about Obelis, besides being characterized by a holy light.[5][6] It's possibly implied that Obelis dwells in a heavenlike place, fitting of his light.[7][8]

Personality[]

  • Although Obelis is not as violent as the Flayed Twins,[9] he is not a peaceful god, since he can be wrathful.[10] His faithful—who are violent in their crusades—claim to act on his will, which implies that their acts of violence in their crusade are the extensions of his wrathful will.[1][11]
  • On the contrary, Chen claims that he is among the most beloved of Obelis, which means that this god has a merciful side, at least for his faithful.[2]
    • Since Obelis is the only entity Chen meets in death, it could be assumed that Obelis is also forgiving of others' sins, especially his faithful's.[12]
  • For the same reason stated above, it could also be assumed that it is Obelis who issues indiscriminate judgement in the afterlife.[13][14]

Relationships[]

Knights of the Fold[]

As a knight of the Fold, 20px|link=Chen|class=noprint Chen is a very staunch worshipper of Obelis, whom he believes is the one true god.[15] After he willingly renounced his past life to join Obelis' flock,[5] Chen relies on his god for divine guidance[16][17] and blessings of strength.[18] He also relies on him for deliverance[19] and protection.[20][3] Such is his faith in Obelis that he believes he is his maker[21][4] who welcomes him in the afterlife[22] and sends him back to serve him again.[23][24] Likely because of this privilege, he considers himself as the one who is loved the most by Obelis.[2] Chen does the will of Obelis,[25] which he believes is inscrutable and hence he does it unquestionably.[11] Thus he serves as a channel for Obelis' words,[26][27] fears his god,[28] and believes he is an awesome force to be reckoned with.[29][30]

Enemies[]

20px|link=Bloodseeker|class=noprint Bloodseeker thinks that Chen's god Obelis is unworthy of any worship because Obelis is unlike Strygwyr's gluttinous twin gods.[9]
